First of all, I have to say that when I see a porpoise in the bay, I consider it a sign of good luck. For whatever reason, that is just how I feel. Well, this morning as I was sitting on the deck enjoying my cup of coffee and biscotti, I was admiring the view of the extremely high tide, and the unusual amount of birds feeding right in the back yard. All of a sudden, up pops a porpoise right in the cove in the back of our house! It is the very first time I have ever seen a porpoise in this part of the bay. This will be a very lucky day, I feel it.
Let me take this time to thank the Italians for sharing their culture with the rest of the world, in the form of biscotti. Biscotti in Italian means "twice baked" and that is exactly what it is. It is a delicious cookie that is baked in a loaf, then sliced and baked again to crisp it up, which makes it excellent for "dunking". I also want to thank my sister for introducing me to homemade biscotti, as she used to bake it for me for my birthday, and I loved it so much. I never wanted to bake it myself, because it looked so difficult. But, later on, she sent me the recipe and I decided to try to make it myself. Ever since that first time I baked it, I have kept up the tradition, and bake it ever so often, and Dick and I enjoy it with our coffee in the mornings, often times having just that for breakfast. I only bake the almond biscotti, but it comes in other combinations....but I am perfectly satisfied with the original amond biscotti.
So my morning of biscotti and porpoises was the perfect way to spend my quiet time on the deck. I will now have an eye out for porpoises for weeks to come. I cannot explain the feeling it is to see them as they perform like acrobats out in the bay. I wish I could have gotten a photo!!
